Heroes are born in Mórahalom: This is how the 1st Jerico Children's Camp went!
Excitement, learning, splashing, and lots of laughter – if we had to summarize the camp held between July 20th and 24th in a few words, I. Jerico Children's Camp, these would be them. We can look back on a truly fulfilling week full of experiences, where the children returned home enriched not only with unforgettable memories but also with life-saving and useful knowledge.
Let's see day by day what all fit into this super week!
Day 1 (Monday): Introduction to the firefighter's life and the secrets of emergency calls 🚨
We started the camp right from the basics: thanks to the Traditional Guard Association of Szentes Firefighters, Major Ferenc Kovács and his team guided the children into the world of the firefighting profession. The youngsters gained insight into the daily routine of firefighters, the conditions for recruitment, and even learned about the national operation of disaster management.
After getting to know barracks life and having a warm lunch at the school canteen, we headed towards Cacao Club, where rotating stations awaited the participants:
- Smart Plate Station: They learned about healthy eating in a playful way.
- Movement Station: Relay races and team games forged the team into one.
- Making Banana Ice Cream: The joint preparation (and consumption!) of the refreshing, healthy fruit dessert was a huge success.
- Board Game Corner: Logic and cooperative games developed strategic thinking.
Day 2 (Tuesday): Climate change, Buffalo Reserve, and a fairytale screening 🦬🌱
On Tuesday morning, the Kistelek Civil Guard and Volunteer Firefighter Association took over the professional baton. Accompanied by President Péter Kácsor, we boarded the famous Buba bus, and visited the Mórahalom Buffalo Reserve.
. In the lap of nature, under expert guidance, we discussed the local effects of climate change, water scarcity, the risks of outdoor fires, and the importance of environmental protection. After the educational outdoor program and lunch, we watched disaster management and environmental fairy tales at Cacao Club, followed by an interactive discussion.
Day 3 (Wednesday): Fire trucks up close and a splash in the pool! 🚒💦
On Wednesday, the host Mórahalom Volunteer Firefighter Association (led by President Norbert Kiss) presented modern firefighting vehicles and rescue equipment. The children could hold the equipment and experience firsthand the difficult and responsible work that active firefighters do.
After the morning's physical and mental work, the afternoon was for well-deserved rest: the group walked over to the Szent Erzsébet Mórahalom Thermal Bath, where we cooled off in the summer heat with swimming, games, and water competitions.
Day 4 (Thursday): Life-saving, first aid, and creative energies 🩺🎨
Thursday was dedicated to one of the most important professional topics: with the help of experts Zsolt Tóth (Ruzsai ÖTE) and Szilveszter Pálinkó, the children learned how to handle emergencies professionally and calmly, and the basic first aid techniques.

In the afternoon, in the cool of the Kolo Serbian Cultural Center, creativity took center stage: we ended the day with beadwork, making unique bracelets and lucky charms, so everyone could take home a lasting personal souvenir.
Day 5 (Friday): Jerico Firefighter Challenge and ceremonial certificate award 🏆📜.
On Friday, it was time for the grand summary. With the help of the Ruzsai Volunteer Firefighter Association (President Tibor Farkas and Zoltán Bóka), we reviewed what we had learned during the week and watched the JERICO project's educational videos together. As the highlight of the week, the children successfully completed the, Jerico Firefighter Challenge , and received their official, JERICO certificates.
, which prove that they have become true little firefighters and young people aware of emergencies! We concluded the day (and the whole week) with board games, sharing great experiences, and lots of laughter.
