A day when culture spoke without borders – Report on the conference „Accessibility and Equal Opportunities in Culture”

On May 29th, within the walls of the KOLO Serbian Cultural Center, we were part of a special event that brought not only knowledge but also deep human emotions and shared thinking. The professional conference and workshop titled „Accessibility and Equal Opportunities in Culture” aimed to redefine what access to culture means – and how it can truly be for everyone.

During the morning, we heard touching and sincere stories from those personally affected by issues of accessibility and equal opportunities. Through expert presentations, we gained insight into inclusive cultural practices and the obstacles faced daily by people with disabilities – whether physical, communicational, or social barriers.

During the roundtable discussion, inspiring dialogues unfolded – we collectively sought solutions to everyday challenges. The question arose: What steps can we take to make our institutions more inclusive? How can we more actively involve those affected in cultural life? The answers resonated with the attendees not only on a professional level but also on a human level.

The screening of the winning short film from Pine Forest Home and the exhibition of artworks created by people with disabilities made the day particularly memorable. These works testified not only to talent but also to faith, perseverance, and human dignity – representing true cultural value.

During the day, the coffee break was not just a rest, but an opportunity for networking, exchanging experiences, and generating new ideas. Vibrant discussions took place in the KOLO community space – just as they should in a living, sensitive, and empathetic community.

This event once again proved that culture belongs to everyone – even if we see, hear, or move differently. We thank everyone who contributed to the success of this meaningful and uplifting day.
