Celebration of Tradition and Community at the KOLO Serbian Cultural Center

In May 2025, the KOLO Serbian Cultural Center once again hosted a special event that shone a spotlight on Serbian folk culture, community experiences, and cross-border cooperation. The program, held under the motto „Tradition Lives,” was not just a performance – it was a shared celebration, a meeting, and an experience.

The welcoming words spoken at the solemn opening of the event fittingly set the spirit of the evening: nurturing and passing on the values and traditions of our community is a common cause for all of us. On behalf of the organizers, special respect was paid to the distinguished guests present, including György Török, Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives of several national minority self-governments and organizations.

The stage was brought to life by the young talents of two outstanding guest ensembles:

– The children's groups of the NERA Cultural and Artistic Association of Novi Sad came to us from Vojvodina. The association has been an active participant in the cultural life of Vojvodina for over a decade, with the aim of passing on the heritage of folk art to all age groups. During their performance, not only the movements but also the authentic costumes and the musical world made a deep impression on the audience.

– The children's groups of the Deska Bánát Serbian Public Benefit Association also brought the rich world of Banat Serbian dances to our stage. In their program, they placed special emphasis on the unique traditions of the region, which they have successfully represented internationally for years.

After the performances, the transmission of culture did not end – quite the opposite! The audience was invited to a joint dance house where young and old learned Serbian dance steps together. The joyful, uninhibited movement, the shared rhythm, and the music of joy created new connections – becoming a true community experience.

This evening once again proved: tradition is not a museum exhibit, but a living link between past and present, between generations. Within the walls of KOLO on this day, new friendships were born, and the commitment to making Serbian culture – especially among young people – alive and tangible was strengthened.

We thank for the cooperation the NERA Association of Novi Sad, a to the Deszki Bánát Association, as well as to all participants and interested parties who celebrated the richness of Serbian culture with us.
